Boost Up YouTube VideoEveryone loves watching youtube videos but many would have faced with this problem of Low Volume in Youtube videos.I too have faced it.Those who have high end speakers can certainly throttle up their controls to experience higher volume in youtube videos but what about those with low End Speakers? A solution to this problem would be as simple as to get a good high end speaker.I have discussed here a simple alternative that i came up with,

We all know VLC media player is the best media player capable of playing many video formats ,it also has a amazing ability to Boost Volume i am sure everyone will agree with this fact and it’s also capable of playing Streamed Videos.

So here’s what we get..

Youtube Videos + VLC Network Streaming Ability + VLC volume boosting ability = Youtube videos with increased Volume

So lets see how to boost Youtube video volume via VLC Media Player

1.Open VLC Media player.

2.Select Media->Open Network Stream
play url in VLC

3.Select network tab.

4.Select Protocol HTTP.

5.Copy required Youtube URL from address bar.Paste URL in address field available in VLC without

and click Play button.

For Example:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkHm8uUuT0o

not

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkHm8uUuT0o

playing url in vlc

6.Wait sometime for Video to load and click play button again.

7.Now increase Volume by pressing CTRL + UP and increase up to 400%

8.Done.

Am sure you will see difference in volume level between that you hear in Youtube and when you play video via VLC media player.

Tried VLC media player and increased volume to 400%. Deleted the video because of 2 sounds being heard. Tried the VLC download again but could only get the volume up to 200%. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

    Very smart advice, thank you.
I can not believe that I haven’t done that before!!! :D

But I found a small problem with VLC; when you place the address and plays streams the standard version of the video (flv format with mono sound) and you have to place manually the interpreters (ex. &fmt=18), this is very annoying with soundtracks and songs.

If there is a solution for that problem you are welcome to share it with us.

    Thank you again.

Thanks for the tip, tried that already but the annoying thing abt using VLC for youtube is that I’m forced to watch the video in High res. :( and the internet speeds are not quite upto the mark in this part of the world. Is there a workaround so i can also choose the quality. Maybe add some option in the URL?

I got the volume to be louder on my youtube video but how do you save the video with the increased volume? I cant seem to figure it out. Everytime I save the video it saves with the original volume not the increased volume.

May be you can try some third party software or else just save the file and always open the file using Videolan and increase the volume :)

      @ Garret and Others,

It seems that Youtube has changed the format in which it delivers the content. You need to do a small fix to view youtube videos on VLC.All those who are facing this same problem of not able to open youtube video in video lan,can try this fix.Go to Videolan Installed folder then VLC\lua\\playlist .Now copy ,paste the file youtube.lua here @vlc
      youtube lua script fix
and replace the original youtube.lua file. Then it should work.I tested with the youtube video you provided it worked.I will soon write a detailed post on this.Cheers!

I followed your instructions but it didn’t work. I think it’s because of my VLC version. It’s the latest version. Everytime I copied my url and played it to VLC, it automaticallly exits. Please help me. :)

I tried it, but, I got the following error (Also tried the LUA patch and am getting the same thing).

Please can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong?

    File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file “www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3wPec4Xp7c&feature=player_detailpage”.
    Your input can’t be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL ‘://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3wPec4Xp7c&feature=player_detailpage’. Check the log for details.
