Its pretty much useful to track how many times a file has been downloaded which shows how well the resource has reached readers attention.

For wordpress users there are plugins available to do the job but if they are already using many plugin and adding up to it new ones might increase the blog/site load time.So here is simple way to solve this problem.

Here is a site to track number of times a file has been downloaded.

Site is Dstats

Any types of site or blog can use it.

How to use it?

1. Choose file you want to monitor

Eg: http://yourwebsite/yourfile.mp3

2. Make DStats.net HTML code for the file

    <a href="http://dstats.net/download.php?file=http://yourwebsite/yourfile.mp3">My Song.mp3</a>

3. Put DStats.net HTML code into your web pages and start online download monitoring of your files now.

4.Done.

How to access the stats?

Access Stats Online:

http://dstats.net/dstats.php?file=http://yourwebsite/yourfile.mp3

To display the Stats:

Use the below snippet

 <script type='text/javascript'
 src='http://dstats.net/dstatsjs.php?file=http://yourwebsite/yourfile.mp3'>
</script>
<script type='text/javascript'>
 document.write(dsdlcounter(dsCounter));
</script>

Say bye ,bye to Download Monitoring plugin’s:)

    Any light weight theme which does not have much of javascript’s and flash can be the right choice..

    Thanks for sharing this info. I’m using a WordPress plugin to upload and keep track of my download files.

    I do understand what you have tried to do here, but using another site to keep track might be dangerous. What if that site goes down or is dead. Where do you get your stats from? You would have to start all over as you might not remember what the last number of downloads was. This is just my opinion.
